Tara Tuomaala Selected for 2023 PLACES Fellowship

Tara Tuomaala, arts program officer, was selected to be a 2023 PLACES fellow for The Funders’ Network. The cohort will visit and learn from communities across ttarahe country over the next 10 months to better understand issues of race, equity, and inclusiveness as they relate to grantmaking.

PLACES fellows visit four communities in the U.S. and meet with local nonprofits, community leaders, funders, and government officials to learn firsthand the issues impacting low-income communities and communities of color, and grassroots efforts that are effectively addressing those issues. The fellowship works to build grant maker capacity and help the philanthropic sector address interrelated issues of community and economic development, environmental sustainability, and regional planning using an explicit lens of social, economic, and racial equity.

Tara was selected after a competitive application process based on her commitment to learning about equity in the context of community development and her desire to invest in professional and personal growth.
