March 2018 Grants Announcement
$2.1 million in new and continuing grants were approved at our March 7 board meeting. The grants will:
- Provide continued general operating support to a set of watershed organizations in metro Detroit and Bayfield, Ontario. As the caretakers of our rivers, watershed organizations are core to the Foundation’s mission. This sustained support has been a priority since our inception in 2009, totaling $3.75 million.
- Leverage local knowledge and resources to support advocacy for the Great Lakes, through a new water school for policymakers to understand Great Lakes issues and the expansion of theGreat Lakes Business Network to address algal blooms in Lake Erie.
- Continue support for Building the Engine of Community Development in Detroit, a collaborative initiative to strengthen Detroit’s community development system.
- Continue support to the Michigan Environmental Council and The Ecology Center for legislative and consumer advocacy at the intersection of the environment and public health.
- Support grassroots arts organizations such as Power House Productions and Sidewalk Detroit, which strengthen Detroit’s neighborhoods by engaging residents in opportunities for creative expression.
