ARTS 17 Arts & Community Life Progress Highlights Residents in Highland Park, Brightmoor, and Detroit’s east side worked alongside artists to overcome blight, beautify their neighborhoods, and inspire pride in their communities. On the city’s northwest side, Detroiters celebrated their neighborhoods through the popular two-day Sidewalk Festival and a new artistic reimagining of Eliza Howell Park. We envision a culturally vibrant City of Detroit and Metropolitan Detroit region where robust participation in the arts contributes to the area’s economic, social, and creative well-being. We support projects that strengthen individual neighborhoods by engaging residents in opportunities for creative expression and participation, withanemphasisonprojectsthatexploretheintersectionofartsandtheenvironment or build on the community’s artistic roots and history.
